Freshwater Fishing Regulations

The New York State Fishing Regulations are available as both web pages (regulations only) and as a PDF (fishing regulations guide). In addition, the fishing regulations guide is available to be viewed with an interactive viewer. The link for the interactive viewer is available to the right (leaves the DEC website).

The time period for anglers to legally possess and use purchased baitfish with a receipt has been extended from seven to ten days as of January 6, 2010.

Fishing Regulation Guide PDF

The Fishing Regulations are printed each year in a publication titled New York Freshwater Fishing Regulations: 2009-10 Official Regulations Guide. It is this guide that is available in PDF format. This is the second year the NYSDEC Bureau of Fisheries has released a full color guide. To offset the cost of printing in full color, the Department allowed advertising to be used in the guide (advertising is not included in the website PDF). The result is a guide that is more attractive to look at, is easier to read, and has allowed for extra space for timely articles written by the Department.
