The Habitat of the Crappie Fish

The Crappie fish love to live in luke warm or tepid water with twigs and brush. They enjoy covering themselves with the brush and twigs. This type of fish comes out at night once the sun goes down, and when the sun comes out they tend to go deep down under the water where they cannot be seen.

Best Season to catch the Crappie Fish

The best time to catch this fish is in the Spring; they are usually mating and spawning during this time of their year so they are otherwise occupied. They are concentrating on other things and are easier to catch. These fish can be caught in the fall months but it is much harder to find them because they are scarce and hiding up under any debris in the water. In theses months they can be as far down as 15-20 feet below the surface.

The best style of fishing to use to catch this fish is by still fishing, drifting or casting. The best waters can be warm or tepid temperatures, it could be a cove or shallow pond area, these fish love to swim in schools, and therefore if one is caught there are usually more in the same area.

Tips and Bait to Use

The best bait to use to catch this type of fish are: worms, small shrimp, crabs, insects and worms. These fish are attracted to these small creatures. One good trick to use when there is a lot of brush is to use a minnow or a twister tail together these lures will not tangle up in the brush and they are easier to pull out than other lures.
